The Mask
Poem by Alex Lily Camarda
A Rose
A thorny rose grows deep within my chest.
Watered with tears, that fall in pain of two.
If my heart be true, may love manifest.
Making wishes on fallen stars, for you.
My petals are wilting, as thorns grow deep.
Chasing dreams of grandeur perchance they live.
Weighing plans for the future, I still weep.
To know life with a child, what I would give.
Chance by fate or free will, who really knows?
Heartache with love goes hand in hand, my dear.
The more we plan, the more my dark fear grows.
Logic measures the weight of what’s unclear.
Blooming heat, summer swelter, love on fire.
You are my chosen, my heart’s one desire.
Ash & Bone
From blood and bone
of ash and stone
the very air from my breath
we love until death
A promise you swore
then he called me a whore
it’s the bonds that we break
it’s the mistakes that you make
He kissed me. Then he tricked me, but it was my fault instead.
A joker, a double taker, a triple down dare ya, he’ll swear to you.
He’s a liar, he’s a hider and she’s a crier for hire.
So many cracks in my vase left me with a feeling of malaise
and as I try to catch the seeping waters, the rivers fall through my hands.
the well has run dry, without another sob, and no tears shed by his demands.
Nature’s Daughter
Squeeze the Sponge
Drain the Water
I am Mother Nature’s Daughter
My chest is filling with Soggy Tears
Drowning in all my Darkest Fears
The lungs are swelling, I hope the water leaks
Pure the water, purge from my Blood
Grant my wish, hear my plea,
Angels of Anguish I summon thee
To rid my sadness and dispense the healing
that somehow someone has been stealing
A curse perhaps, maybe a hex,
but three by three I Contradict
And three by three, healing for me.
Woes and worries wrinkle-free.
No more tears to cry, I have finally forgiven myself.
The Mask
Hiding behind this mask of lies
This pretty smile is my disguise
Not many, if any, know my true demeanor
Inside, I’m a silent screamer
lack of colors, desolate and void
Just another mindless droid
Who am I but a fragile flower
No destiny, plucked before my hour
In the mirror, I’m forced to see my reflection
Unable to bear my appearance, I look in another direction
The web of lies I’m tangled in
teetering between heaven and sin
Truly, I’m lost and out of my mind
As the world moves forward
I’m left behind
stuck in a rut on this broken carousel
feeling like I’m cursed and under a spell
lost & forgotten, never to be found
Forever in circles on this merry-go-round
Reaching for a golden ring
hanging by a tiny string
dangling over the dark abyss
Waiting for death’s final kiss
